On 4 November, as I sat on the plane that would take me to Luxembourg, this great experience began. I was excited, curious, and simultaneously intimidated by what would happen in the following days. Despite the excitement during my solo trip, I was lucky enough to meet my first friends on the plane. Noticing my poster wedged between my hand luggage, Oscar, the head of the China delegation, immediately said to me: ‘You too here to participate in the LISE?’.
After this meeting, I spent the entire first day with the guys from the China delegation, and what impressed me the most as we visited Luxembourg together were the long talks we had; in fact, I think the most beautiful experience of this whole trip was confronting yourself with cultural realities different from your own, learning to appreciate what you have, and above all, being curious about and respecting what others bring from their own experience. The first two days were dedicated to social networking, allowing participants to get to know each other through games, museum visits, and many other recreational moments, thanks to which I met and talked to people from all over the world, such as Mexico, Georgia, Taiwan, Slovenia, and many others.
On the third day, the real experience of this prize began, namely the exhibition of our projects. Seeing so many young people talking about science, exhibiting their projects, and listening to each other spurred me to believe in our generation because so many interesting insights and captivating research emerged. On the evening of the third day, there was a cultural night, where colors, tastes, and traditions melded into a pleasant evening in company. I could enjoy the food I had never tasted before, see traditional dances, and listen to a variety of traditional songs. I think this evening was the most special memory of the entire week because it struck me to realize how many different cultures exist in the world, especially hearing about them with so much love for their homeland.
On the last day, after a long morning of exhibition, there was the closing ceremony, where each of us participants was welcomed on stage and applauded. It was a great emotion for me to represent Switzerland, even in a small way, and to see my name projected on the big screen.
After pictures and toasts, in the evening we all celebrated together, dancing and laughing.
These days in Luxemburg are a memory I will carry with me for years to come, for all that they taught me, and for the wonderful people they introduced me to.
